Challenge
An engineering and construction company operating in the energy sector approached Brimmond with a requirement to refurbish a Launch and Recovery A-Frame back to as-new condition.
With the A-Frame due to be installed on a vessel and remain in service for a number of years, reliability and long-term performance were critical. Rather than replacing the equipment with a new unit, refurbishment offered a cost-effective alternative way to extend the life of an existing asset and return it to the required condition.
Solution
Brimmond carried out a comprehensive refurbishment of the A-Frame at our facility, beginning with a function test followed by a full strip-down and inspection. The refurbishment scope included:
- Blasting of all parts
- NDT and inspection of load path by trained personnel
- Repairs of any parts found to be outside of specification
- Painting to the customer’s specification
- Re-assembly of A-Frame
- Final testing
The complete A-Frame was delivered to the client on time and within budget, fully refurbished and ready to return to service.
This successful project strengthened Brimmond’s relationship with the client, leading to further refurbishment scopes including an additional A-Frame, tehther management systems, electric HPUs and hydraulic winches.
The project demonstrates how Brimmond’s refurbishment capabilities can help customers extend equipment life while maintaining the reliability and engineering quality required for demanding offshore applications.
